Course Description:
In 2017, the American Academy of Periodontology held a joint symposium with the European Federation of Periodontology to review the status of periodontal classification which is necessary to properly diagnose and treat patients. This workshop was attended by world leaders in clinical periodontics and in periodontal research. This updated classification system was released in the summer of 2018. This course will review the classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions, taking into account the etiology, pathogenesis and natural history of these diseases and conditions.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define Periodontal disease
- Introduce the new periodontal classification
- Explain the concept of staging and grading
- Discuss risk factors
- Treatment planning: Non-surgical and Surgical
Meet the Speaker:
Deborah Foyle, D.D.D., M.S., MSc.
Dr. Deborah Foyle is a Clinical Associate Professor and the Director of the Predoctoral Program in the Department of Periodontics. She received her dental degree in 1982 from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. In 1991, she received her Master of Science in Periodontology from the Royal London Hospital Medical College, University of London. She received her certificate in Periodontics and Master of Science in Oral Biology from the Texas A & M University in 2005. Dr. Foyle is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
