Hosted by the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program at A.T. Still University in conjunction with the Physical Therapy Department in the Arizona School of Health Sciences.
The Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program is accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency & Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE).

Course Objectives:
At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the current best evidence relating to spinal manipulative therapy (SMT).
- Describe the risks and benefits of SMT.
- List absolute and relative contraindications of SMT.
- Discuss the evidence supporting the use and interpretation of clinical tests for vertebrobasilar insufficiency and upper cervical instability.
- Discuss the rationale for the use of SMT thrust techniques.
- Describe and demonstrate the spinal positioning and localization with coupling at different regions of the spine necessary to ensure patient comfort, safety, and effective delivery of SMT thrust techniques.
- Demonstrate grade V thrust techniques in the lumbo-pelvic, lumbar, thoracic, and cervical spine.
Registration is limited to 36 participants.
CEU: Participants are awarded .14 CEUs or 14 contact hours at the end of the course.
Intended audience: Licensed PTs
This course is a prerequisite for the Gibbon’s & Tehan spinal manipulation courses II and III. These courses will be hosted at A T Still University and sponsored by Phoenix Manual Therapy.
ATSU Physical Therapy Department is qualified to provide physical therapist continuing education courses and activities according to the Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy (Rule R4-24-402).
CEU courses and other post-professional programs offered at ATSU are not associated with the CAPTE accredited residential Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
