Course Description:

As a general practitioner it is important to know the common lesions (soft, firm or bony, localized or generalized, sessile or pedunculated lumps or bumps) occurring in different areas in the mouth, have a differential diagnosis and know management options. Actual case presentations and management issues will be discussed.

 Learning Objectives:

  • State the common lumps and bumps occurring in the oral cavity.
  • Discuss differential diagnosis for these lumps and bumps.
  • Identify importance of biopsy to arrive at a definitive diagnosis
  • Describe management options.

 Meet the Speaker:

Nagamani Narayana, D.M.D., M.S.

Dr. Narayana is an associate professor in Oral pathology at UNMC, College of Dentistry from 2003. In addition to her training in India, Nagamani is dually trained in Oral Medicine and Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from UMKC, School of Dentistry, Kansas City and New York Hospital, Queens. She obtained her DMD from Temple University School of Dentistry. She is a diplomate of American Academy of Oral Medicine and American Academy of Oral Pathology. Presently Nagamani teaches Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine at the school; in addition she sees patients in the University Dental Associates and is the director of the oral biopsy service of the UNMC College of Dentistry.
