Event Details

Pre-Cruise Conference
This primary care CME meeting will be held at the San Juan Embassy Suites San Juan – Hotel located at Isla Verde, Carolina, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Course Description
This course is designed for physicians, physician assistants, and other healthcare learners who are interested in expansion of their internal medicine knowledge and primary care medicine skills. The curriculum will feature a diverse selection of up-to-date, practical topics in primary care medicine which can directly be applied to patient scenarios. Topics were chosen from our latest professional practice gaps needs assessment and will focus on issues which are commonly presented in the family practice setting

At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Competently discuss the latest issues facing primary care and family medicine providers
  • Discuss current diagnostic and therapeutic options for common illnesses and injuries seen in primary care
  • Identify new evidence-based treatment options using up-to-date clinical and scientific information
  • Employ valid assessment tools and screening tests to evaluate common clinical problem

Target Audience: Primary care physicians, family practice physicians, internal medicine, and other healthcare learners who treat patients within the primary care setting

Educational Need:  Based on recent evaluation results, and CME Needs Assessment results, our target audience has asked for evidence based information presented on the most currently seen chronic conditions and prevalent complaints treated within the primary care setting.  The PCP is faced with insufficient time to keep up with the newest data and updated standards of care, government regulations and therefore gaps in competence to treat these conditions exist.  New strategies to treat these patients will be discussed plus the latest in treatment options.

Professional Practice Gap:  Primary care Providers provide most of the evidence-based disease prevention and screening within the current Healthcare system.  With caring for physicians with multiple chronic conditions there is a lack of time and resources to keep up with all of the recommended advances within the best treatment options available.  Most chronic care illness care takes place within the Primary Care setting.  47% of patients with chronic diseases have more than one chronic condition.

Expected Outcome: This CME activity was designed to change the Learner’s Competence.
